well. With this in mind we can see that her stories, and her analysis of the stories, provide us with incredibly detailed looks at classic tales. In so doing she  offers us a perspective, or many perspectives, which illustrate the nature of the soul, the conditions relating to gender, and issues which are very real and current. In the following  paper we examine her work. The paper begins with a brief examination of three of the stories within her work. From there the paper focuses on one of those three,  followed by a brief section which examines the message of her book. Lastly, there is a section discussing what a man may learn from reading Estes work.  Three of the Stories The three stories chosen for a brief examination are "Bluebeard," "Skeleton Woman," and "Sealskin, Soulskin." In the story of Bluebeard we have the typical male predator  in the form of Bluebeard and the innocent naive woman who is captured and controlled by him. We are also, however, presented with the powerful and symbolic presentation of the  womans brothers, who serve to illustrate, perhaps, a more righteous and more enlightened way of approaching women, respecting women, and perhaps even protecting women.: her brothers on horseback galloped down  the castle hallway and charged into her room...There they routed Bluebeard out onto the parapet. There and then, with swords, they advanced upon him, striking and slashing, cutting and whipping,  beating Bluebeard down to the ground, killing him at last and leaving for the buzzards his blood and gristle" (Estes NA). In analyzing the story Estes states that "The brothers  represent the blessing of strength and action. With them, in the end, several things occur: one is that the vast and disabling ability of the predator is neutralized..." (NA). In
