    Their choice to eschew the conveniences of contemporary technological advancement speaks to the obvious importance of filling basic needs with the standards of natural application. The uncomplicated lifestyle  the Amish lead is often subject to ridicule and contempt from outsiders who contend that the Amish have purposefully separated themselves from the rest of society as a means by  which to build a community of their own jurisdiction; however, the extent to which the Amish live and work as members of an unadorned population thriving amidst a larger society  of constant problems clearly endorses the benefits of a simple existence. One of the primary elements of conventional society that is conspicuously absent from the Amish lifestyle is that of  competition. Because they work together as a community, rather than opposing one another in the quest for material gain, the Amish can focus on the more important of lifes  priorities, such as family, friends and positive productivity (Faith in a Simpler Life). Since the time of the Protestant Reformation and moving forward into the seventeenth century, Amish tenets  have remained as stalwart and holistic as they are today: lead a simple life, respect your fellow man, work hard for the benefit of working hard and abstain from the  so-called improvements of modern society. "Their religion and their way of life have ethics and morals that work well with any person who wants to work hard" (Olson 23).  The lessons ignored by the rest of society have reaped an accumulation of cultural ills that do not exist within the Amish community, inasmuch as the Amish have been  untouched by the curse of modernity. Solidarity - not individualism - is what provides the fundamental foundation upon which they thrive, along with the outright prohibition of violence and
