    by Barbara Fields and a novel by George Schuyler entitled Black No More. Both authors seem to believe that race is socially constructed. The relationship of race and class is  explored. No additional sources cited. SA146rac.rtf George Schuyler addresses the color line in a rather humorous way and further, provides the reader with an entertaining story. What  if a black person could transform himself or herself into someone white? Then, he or she could enjoy the privileges of the white world. In the book, Max Disher is  a black man who becomes a white Matthew Fisher and peruses a white woman who he had been interested in. Many will ask whether or not it was better  to be white. Interestingly, this character finds that the white world lacks the culture that he found in his own heritage. It is an eye-opening piece for any black person  who might have envied the white life. After all, it is a white world and black people are faced with a great deal of prejudice such as being profiled, stereotyped  and ignored. Schuylers novel also examines the interrelated issues of race and class. Indeed, race and class appear inextricable in his work. The author takes a particular approach, but  other authors write about race in different ways. Barbara Jeanne Fields has a different take on the matter. She says that when practically  the whole of a society, inclusive of supposedly thoughtful, educated, and intelligent persons, believes in ideas that collapse into absurdity even with the slightest examination, the reason is not hallucination  or delusion but rather ideology (Fields, 1990). Ideology is not possible for anyone to analyze sensibly if they remain trapped in it (1990). That is why race still is so
