    nursing and long-term care facilities have become instrumental in caring for an aging population, including an aging population of veterans of war. Though just a few decades ago, these  veterans were cared for by families, changing demographics and the need for more complex care has resulted in a movement away from nursing home care and towards care in the  skilled nursing facility. As a result, the nursing home and long-term care industries have become increasingly competitive. A focus on quality and quality assurance has resulted from the changing  perspectives on long-term care. Facilities that are able to provide quality services and show assurances of these services are more likely to secure a larger client base, and maintain  their facilities, staff and administration. Quality assurance, through a study of consumer satisfaction, is one means by which skilled nursing facilities can promote positive change. This research proposal  focuses on one 350 bed skilled nursing facility that provides service for a primarily male population of US veterans. The responses to quality surveys are viewed as one way  of determining the level of care, the perspectives on staffing and the general satisfaction of the consumer base, the clients living in this home. Problem Statement  There are a number of elements that come into consideration when assessing how these types of facilities determine the necessity for change and how  quality assurances are used in this setting. For example, it has been recognized that team work is one of the most effective organizational tools that can be supported through  effective leadership and better collaborative relationships, and has become a major focus in the modern healthcare environment (Hojat et al, 2001).
