By  looking at this singular business unit we can perform a SWOT analysis to look at the strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats that are present. 2. Strengths and Weaknesses There are  a number of strengths that the company has we can look at three individual and consider what they are and why they are strengths. 2.1 Strengths 1. Cooper Lighting is  present in most sectors of the market, supported by a large number of brand names, such as Halo, Iris, Lumiere, Streetworks and Regent to name a few. This places the  company in a position to supply a range of goods to different markets from commercial lighting needs to the lighting supplies to the retail market. This is a straight as  it gives the company a large level of the market share in all areas it operates wit the different brands. The advantage of being in the different segments is also  seen in the way that there are overlaps that allow for economies of scope and scale to be realised at the same time as increasing sales. Different brands also allow  for different t associations to appeal to divergent target markets. There is also the diversification, if there is bad publicity for a single brand, or a particular segment of the  market suffers the risk is diversified with the remaining brands and segments so that the impact of one are of decline 2. The company had made acquisitions a core competences.  They appear to be able to take on smaller manufacturers such as Shaper Lighting which was acquired in 2000 and integrate the operations with their own.
