In looking at an example company such as Power Gen there have been, and are still on going issues that heed to be faced  by the company as a result of deregulation of the electricity market. Faced with more competition and changing technology this is a company that will have to change to survive.  In a free market economy where there are competitors the need for a competitive advantage is clear, there needs to be a  reason why the customers will buy from company A and not company B. In the United Kingdom one company that has learnt this the hard way has been Power Gen.  The market had been deregulated and there was freedom of choice for consumers. Many chose to stay with the company they started out with., but many also chose to move,  and with the need to retain customers it must be asked why many of these customers decided to move. If we look at the contact the customer has with  the company it is very limited, the meter is read, and often there is not even a contact at this point in the cutter is outside. Therefore, the contact is  by the bills and letters and through the customer service centres. The problems ma be seen a broad ranging and indicative if a bureaucratic culture that needs changing. It is  not seen as unusual to keep customers hanging on the telephone, to be passed around and to have difficulty finding the records. This leads to customer dissatisfaction and frustration.  Therefore the change that is needed here may be seen as a better system by which to locate customers records, but also the change in attitude that is needed to
