These days,  however, there are as many methods of "counseling" and "therapy" to choose from, as there are patients who request emotional help. There are also many therapists available to offer different  types of help. However, in order to fully assist a patient in the quest for his/her task, the therapist involved needs to understand a few factors before embarking on working  with a new patient; namely the personality of the individual; the roles of both therapist and patient during therapy and how to determine a successful outcome.  Before we get started with the actual "meat" of the paper, a few things should be noted. First, the term "therapist" will be used as a  catchall phrase for the person who is the health care professional; with "therapy" being the preferred term of choice. In addition, "client" will be used to refer to the patient.  Second, sources cited in this paper will be indicated in APA style. Personality structure In determining the best counseling style for a  client, the therapist must first determine what the personality structure of the client is. Now, trying to determine "personality structure" is difficult, as the concept of personality, itself, is such  a broad one (Ehrenreich, 1997). Once upon a time, most therapists relied on "textbook" interpretations of personality and were able to slot patients into these definitions and treat them accordingly.  The person who was sad and unmotivated was often diagnosed as "depressed." However, times have changed and people seek out therapies for different reasons. Simplistically enough, defining the personality involves
