the student will submit to the hospital board of directors. This proposal should begin, however, with an explanation of why the new nursing unit is needed. The long-term trends  in Canadian adolescent sexuality, such as the rates for pregnancy, abortion and live birth indicate "good news" as statistics up to 2000 reveal an "all time low" (McKay, 2004, p.  67). However, statistics also indicate that the rate of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remains unacceptably high (McKey, 2004). Reducing the incidence of STIs, as well as continuing to reduce  the number of teen pregnancies, requires that Canadian healthcare providers continue to address the needs of teens for accurate information and appropriate clinical services. Description of the proposed clinic  A sexual health clinic offering a variety of health services can serve to decrease the incidence of unwanted pregnancy and STDs in the area chosen by the student, with a  particular focus on the adolescent population. The proposed unit would operate as a new nursing unit within the auspices of _______ (perhaps use the name of a school or institution  with which the student is affiliated. Services offered will include providing accurate health information pertaining to safer sex practices, STD transmittal and birth control. Counseling services will be available that  serve to mentor teens and provide socially positive guidance and support. Diagnostic and screening exams will also be available, but clients will also be referred to community agencies and other  healthcare providers when appropriate. A pilot project that was instituted in Bristol, England found that attendance at sexual health clinics greatly improved when they were placed in British secondary  schools (School sex clinics, 2008). The vast majority of the adolescents seeking services (61 percent) reported that they would not have attended the clinic if it had been situated elsewhere
