An unfortunate reality in todays world is that deceit is a  common component of our everyday reality. People, it seems, would sooner lie than tell the truth in everything from politics, to high profile court cases, to even the most  mundane aspects of our personal lives. In "Never Be Lied to Again: How to Get the Truth in 5 Minutes or Less in Any Conversation or Situation" author David  Lieberman examines the phenomenon of lying from the perspective of how to go about discerning when a lie is being told. Lieberman (1999) reveals some of the characteristics which  can be used to reveal when an individual is intentionally deceiving you. This characteristics can, in fact, be utilized as a component of our everyday dealings with other to  expose deception and to uncover the truth. "Never Be Lied to Again: How to Get the Truth in 5 Minutes or Less in  Any Conversation or Situation" is broken down into eight sections. The first section identifies the basis signs of deception, signs which are often apparent but sometimes misleading. Lieberman  delves into how to discern between these signs in his second section on how to become a human lie detector. He maintains that some of these techniques are commonly  employed even in childhood. Others, however, require a deliberate effort for their effective utilization. Some methods which can be employed to reveal lies should be employed only in  the most radical of situations such as in court or when the complete destruction of a relationship between the liar and the individual uncovering the lie is taken for granted.
