    life and death. It is a real deception of what death and life is all about, told through the magical realities of animals on a farm. What makes the  book magical is that the animals can talk to each other, and the spider, Charlotte, can spin words in her web. What makes the book so powerfully real is the  manner in which it presents the child reader with the reality of death and life. In the following paper we illustrate how E.B. Whites book is an excellent childrens book  due to its handling of death, and life. Charlottes Web and Death Whites story delves right into the realities of death on a farm, and it also deals  with how many young people, and older people as well, may well react to the reality of slaughtering animals for food. Fern says, "You mean kill it? Just because its  smaller than the others?" (White NA). Fern is learning what her father tells her is a harsh fact of life, farm life, in that things are killed because they are  small or because they are needed for food. Fern insists that this is not fair and she receives the pig to take care of. She names him Wilbur and she  raises this pig in a somewhat happy atmosphere until he is too big and he must go live on a nearby farm. On that farm Wilbur learns that he will  become food for the farmer, for that is the purpose of pigs. He obviously does not want this to happen and is incredibly distressed. His friend, a spider named Charlotte,  promises to help him figure a way out of the seemingly inevitable fate of a pig. This is where the magic of the entire story comes into play, a magic
