remains a consistently potent topic for sociological research. As other societal trends drive the increase of marriages among young people, an interesting phenomenon to explore is the association between age  and divorce rate. Problem Statement As divorce rates increase in the United States, so too has the frequency of marriages among young people. While the average age  of marriage is skewed somewhat higher in modern times due to legal restrictions on the age of majority, trends still evidence a recent tendency towards younger marriages. This being the  case, it is possible there is a significant correlation between age at marriage and likelihood of divorce. Research Questions The major question to address with this proposed  research would be, "is there a significant correlation between age at marriage and the likelihood of divorce?" By exploring this question, it may be possible to gain a greater understanding  of the increasingly common sociological institution of divorce, with an aim towards increasing knowledge of the requirements of a sustainable and mutually fulfilling marriage relationship. This would ease psychological and  financial burdens on many families who endure hardships as the result of divorce. While exploring this primary question, it would also be worth looking for any other demographic factors associated  with an increased rate of divorce. For example, many studies have associated the rate of alcohol intoxication while being married as a significant "predictor of later divorce" (Collins, Ellickson, &  Klein, 2007). Framing these questions as a thesis, one would make the assumptive claim that "a lower age at marriage is correlated with a significantly increased likelihood of divorce".  Purpose and Significance This research is personally significant to the research because of many childhood experiences of witnessing the trauma induced upon friends with divorced parents.
