    a great divide between the east and the west. When we look at this the modern divide can be traced by to the formation of the Iron Curtain. This was  the divide between the lands and area of the Soviet Union in the East and the rest of Europe in the West. If we are to argue that this  is one of the defining aspects of the east west divide then we can look at the evidence that is presented. The east west divide here was typified and can  be seen in the way it was concentrated in Germany. This followed the division of Germany following the Second World War. The Soviet Union was a communist country, with rules  and laws reflecting g this very different culture and way of working. Whilst the part of Germany that was in the in the west developed in line with capitalist ideals  and formed a democracy and grew strong the east of the country was left behind, under the communist rule there was little investment, wages were controlled and there was no  ability for a supply and demand economy to develop. This resulted in very different attitudes towards many aspects of life. For example, in a communist state where all business is  controlled by the state to see extent there is not role of risk taking entrepreneurs. This also resulted in different perceptions of wages and of politics that cannot fail  to permeate life attitudes and cultures. If we look at the situation today many differences can still be traced back. Although Germany has been unified the style of the  two sides of the country are very different, there are also some major differences in the standard of living between the east and the west.
