Not only was it a facilitating factor in addressing the overwhelming hostilities between and among all parties involved, but it also  set in motion certain changes that could not have occurred without its intervention, all of which had a decidedly strong impact upon Eastern Europe. * Poland was given back  its independence and given its own national election in order to create a new, independent government * Yugoslavia was given its own government as well which consisted of mostly old  members under a new system * Nazi and Fascist leaders were specifically prohibited * Germany was divided into zones controlled by each of the three nations present * Stalin agreed  to unquestionably join the war against Japan (Healy, 2002). II. IMPACT Winston Churchill loathed Hitler and did everything in his power to  maintain sufficient distance from the barbarian. Churchill was chastised for some of his political endeavors on the part of the British; however, in the long run he had made  a strong name for himself as Prime Minister. A Nobel Prize recipient, Churchill sought to rid the world of tyrants like Hitler, as well as establish a relationship between  and among international parties. Churchills participation at the Yalta Conference helped solidify his political stance as both leader and individual. It was at a political level that the  basic determination of the future of a defeated Germany was thrashed out at the Yalta Conference in February of 1945 (Smitha, no date).  The Yalta Conference reaffirmed the need to press for unconditional surrender of the axis powers. In addition it was agreed that plans be devised for the military occupation of
