• Research Paper on:
Effectiveness of Sex Education in Teen HIV Prevention

    Number of Pages: 14

    Summary of the research paper:

A 14 page research paper that offers a research study proposal. The hypothesis for the proposed study is that a sex education program that significantly affects the attitudes and norms of participant adolescents and creates positive cognition toward abstinence and delayed sexual behavior can be termed to be effective, as this result can logically be assumed to have a positive effect on the incidence of HIV among adolescents/young adults. The proposal outlines the parameters of the problem and provides background information on the issues, which states the purpose of the proposed study. A literature review provides context, as it summarizes previous research on this topic. The proposed methodology, data collection and analysis are then summarized. Samples of a parental/guardian consent form and a participant asset form are also included. The proposal also includes a 1 page abstract. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

these young adults are acquiring the infection during adolescence, which calls into question the effectiveness of high school sex education programs. A research study is proposed that is designed to  evaluate the attitudes and intentions of high school student participants before, after, and at 6- and 12-month follow-up intervals in regards to abstinence and sexual behavior. Introduction Adolescent sexuality represents  a tremendous public health problem, both in terms of teen pregnancies and also in regards to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as HIV/AIDS. The incidence of STDs among American adolescents  of all ethnicities, races and socioeconomic groups is high, as there were roughly 9 million new infections among young people aged 15- to -24 years in 2000, which is approximately  twice the incidence for older people (Morrison, et al, 2007). Furthermore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that around half of annual HIV infections, occurring in the  US on an annual basis, are acquired by young people under the age of 25 (Morrison, et al, 2007). Given that HIV infection has an extended latency period, in all
