gets older they are more likely to have to visit hospital. This is a common assumption as while the link between the need for healthcare and healthcare cost with age  has been established the issue of hospital visits may not be as clear, while older patients may have more demands many hospital visits result from singular accidents, when may or  may not be related to age. An interesting question is to assess whether or not there is a link to age and the number of hospital visits that are made  in a year. Therefore the question is to assess whether or not older people are likely to require more hospital visits in a year. 1.1 The Hypothesis In order  to assess the answer to this question the use of hypothesis testing will be of value. The hypothesis (H1) will need to be assessed against a null hypothesis (H0).  H1 = As adults grow older people age they are likely to require more visits to hospital in a year. H0 = There is no relationship between the age of  adults and the number of hospital visits undertaken in a year. 1.2 Justification By assessing the link between hospital visits and age there is the ability to add  valuable data to the way in which hospital resources are allocated to different areas and to assess the potential level of resources that are needed. 1.3 Limitations  The subject of the study is a very large population, therefore there are potential dangers unless the sample chosen can be fully representative of  the entire population. Therefore there is the potential of sampling error, due to the size of the population. The research will also be based on a quantitative approach, this means
