    Enron, along with its accounting firm Arthur Anderson, has been the subject of intense Federal investigation amid accusations and documentation of deceptive accounting and business practices. In the  wake of this corruption are the lives which have been forever changed due to the unethical practices of a few corporate managers consumed with greed. Enron represents everything wrong  in terms of the use of power and prestige. From managers who didnt manager to auditors who didnt audit, Enron is the picture of corporate self-indulgence - a company  whose regard for wealth and power led to its eventual demise. Enrons Early Years Texas State Representative Kevin Bailey  killed an Enron bill in the spring of 1991, against the advice of his veteran campaign manager to "play ball" will the company (How Enron Did Texas). At this  point in time, Enron was "still just a natural-gas-pipeline concern" (How Enron Did Texas). Needless to say, Bailey did not take the advice, and this decision nearly finished his  career (How Enron Did Texas). By the next year, Enron had recruited a candidate to run against Bailey and with the backing of Enron and thus the available cash,  the Enron candidate bought Baileys campaign manager (How Enron Did Texas). Although Bailey did win, it was by an exceptionally narrow margin (How Enron Did Texas). So, Enron  tried again in 1994 to get rid of Bailey, but again was unsuccessful (How Enron Did Texas). Since that time Bailey has remarked about Ken Lays influence and power,  saying that "People were afraid to mess with him, because they always knew hed try to get you" (How Enron Did Texas). Enron continued to grow and gain
