When considering the chain of events there appears to have been a very naive approach to the Latin American deal which, if handled different, may have produced  a much more satisfactory outcome. There are to major issues here, the Latin American contract and the redundancy of the workers. In looking at the Latin American contract there were  many pull factors, this was the potential to expand into a new market, gain the Kudos of being an international company and increase the turnover if the company. The  costing, as it stood, did not appear to be competitive enough to gain the contract. Therefore, some analysis may have been taken place, but this appears to have been limited.  A true risk analysis would have considered a much greater range of issue other that the price that was to be charged. The desire to gain the contract and reduce  the costs was one that created a set of priorities that were not healthy for the company. There was the desire to gain the parts at a more competitive price.  This meant changes to the supply chain, outsourcing components from a different company. This has inherent risks, as the production of any components brought in is more difficult to assure  as the production processes is not under the companys control. The jubilation at finding a cheaper supplier resulted in few real consideration of that supplier. In the normal process  of any contract, there would need to be careful consideration of the supplier as well as the part that they are supplying. This would include checking the licensing agreements of  the company as well as the performance and inspecting and testing the components it makes.
