addressed in order for substance abuse counseling to be effective. Quite often, the substance abuse is the result of issues related to their sexual status being left unresolved, and
clearly then this highlights the need to address the entirety of the person rather than solely their substance abuse issue.
In terms of prevention, there are again specific issues which need to be addressed when dealing with sexual minority populations. Without acknowledging this aspect, the counselor fails to recognize
a significant part of who these individuals are as well as an important factor in the substance abuse issue. Substance Abuse Counseling for Sexual Minorities
