methods that this massive restaurant chain uses to keep the corporation healthy, one can learn much about the American approach to successful business tactics. MCDONALDS According to Stephani Robson  in an article for Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly, the inventory of a restaurant includes much more than the food and supplies it takes to run a restaurant.  The most important part of a restaurants inventory "is the availability of a seat for the duration of the meal experience" (1999, 56). In order to make sure that  a high volume chain restaurant such as McDonalds makes the most of its profitability, it is important that they fill those restaurant seats as quickly as possible. Additionally they  must give the consumer a pleasant eating experience, and at the same time get them out quickly and efficiently in order to increase the volume of sales at the restaurant  (Robson 1999). Also to be considered, especially within the McDonalds atmosphere, is the way the restaurant is prepared to handle children. Does the restaurant have a playground, and is  it safe? Can the parents keep an eye on their children? Making sure that the children have a very enjoyable time while at McDonalds is what ensures that  those children will ask their parents to take them to McDonalds again and again. As Robson points out, one of the only ways a restaurants sales can be increased to  any degree is to "expand that inventory by increasing the number of available seats. Owing to the physical constraints of most restaurants, adding seats is not feasible. That leaves  only one good way to increase inventory: turning tables more rapidly" (Robson 1999, 56). There are many ways to increase the volume of seat turnover which owners can use.
