    government involved in urging people to stick to traditional family values in order to keep our country strong. However, many have various opinions of what defines family values, making the  subject even more difficult to assess and clarify. Bearing that in mind we present the following paper which first examines what family values are. The paper then discusses the history  of traditional families and traditional family values. The paper finishes with an examination of whether the presumed family values still exist. What are Traditional Family Values? As mentioned,  there are many different opinions regarding the definition of traditional family values. Many may well argue that faithful behavior towards ones spouse is a traditional value. One may argue that  being involved with ones family, and communicating and respecting one another is a very important family value. Others may say that providing a home where all people feel safe and  loved is a value. There is the argument that family values must include religion and a belief in God. And, then again, there are family values which pertain to positions  within the family, where the man works and the woman takes care of the children. In many ways we are looking to values that were presented to us in the  middle of the 20th century. And, according to many, family values "is a code name devised by self-appointed monitors of morality" (Owen; Edwards fam_values.html). For those who take this stance  it is often stated that "these brazen protectors of the American family never really come out and tell you just which ideal of family life that they are promoting" (Walker  statspeak_2.html). One author illustrates that "There were no prior marriages, no children from prior relationships, no threat or even thought of divorce, and the closest thing we saw to
