A defendant must pay a price in order to keep that door locked with the character  evidence rule for example(Melilli, 1998). Here, in response to a false accusation, a defendant would likely deny the accusation, but a defendant who chooses to call witnesses to testify  does wave protection of the character evidence rule (1998). Therefore, in a court case, false accusation may occur unexpectedly. In other types of cases, such as those that involve rape  accusations, particularly when the accuser has a questionable past, things become more complex . It is suggested that evidence should be admitted to "provide context" as well as to supply  a motive for a false accusation (Bryden & Lengnick, 1997). Other areas where false accusation is often seen is when one parent falsely accuses another of child abuse, a practice  that has increased since the advent of no-fault divorce (Wardle, 1991). Although there are certain situations that are susceptible to false accusation due to motive, there are cases where police  reports are made and false accusation occurs for seemingly no reason at all. A case study, based on facts presented by a student, follows. II. Case Study  A bogus report had been made against Rosie Crawford. The complainant gave a false name which was Chelsea Porter. The complainant went on to give Chelseas name, cell  phone number as well as work numbers and all the things that seemed to make the complaint credible. However, all of the information belonged to another person, not the real  complainant. What happened was that the unknown individual who made the accusation against Rosie, claimed to be a friend of hers named Chelsea. Chelsea is a true friend and all
