    get a quick meal at a good price. They want value, speed and taste and when they have more time, they bring the kids inside and relax. To them, McDonalds  is home. They are on the road traveling and can stop in at any time of the morning or late night and be able to get a good cup of  coffee and something to eat. The golden arches means peace of mind where families can stop in and get virtually the same meal anywhere in the world. That said, McDonalds  is not the only fast food company in the world, but it is the most popular. Does that mean it is the best? Some will argue that McDonalds is indeed  the best of all the fast food restaurants as it was a pioneer and every other one copied them. Yet, some balk at their fried burgers and prefer hands down  the Whopper or a Wendys sandwich. And although it is arguable that McDonalds has the best fast food in the world, it is hard to argue statistics that say it  is the most popular. It is. Yet, popularity is not everything, even though it is the most important. After all, it seems that in this competitive capitalist society, the restaurant  with the better product wins. That is true at least in theory. In looking at growth rates, market share and taste comparisons, it is possible to tell which fast food  restaurant is best. In looking at statistics during the mid-1990s for SANDWICH CHAINS RANKED BY U.S. SYSTEMWIDE SALES GROWTH, Blimpie ranked highest in terms of sales growth, Sonic  Drive-Ins were second and Burger King ranked third (Kramer, 1996). Taco Bell, Wendys and Jack in the Box were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively and McDonalds was seventh in this
