Since this viewpoint allows the reader insight into the mind of the speaker, first person point of view creates a sense of intimacy and familiarity between the reader  and the speaker in the story. There are different manifestations of first person viewpoint. For instance, the "I" telling the story could be a part of the referenced  events, or the "I" telling the story could be removed/detached from the events being described. Isaac Babels, My First Goose, is  an excellent representation of the advantages of using first person point of view in the storytelling process. The storyteller in this instance is involved in the story, being a  participant in the action that he relates. What is so important about the use of first person point of view in this story is that it heightens the tension,  drama, and intrigue considerably. The events as they are related by the storyteller would loose a substantial amount of their impact if they were to be told by another  who was not directly involved. The storyteller is hungry upon his arrival at a camp, and we understand his hunger not  through the observations of bystanders, but through his own words that interpret his own feelings and anxiety about the situation. He sees the other men around a fire with  a pot of pork cooking, and he says, "It aroused in me a feeling of hunger along with an infinite feeling of loneliness" (Babel, 2003). We therefore understand the  physical longing and the clear isolation and desperation of this character. Had someone else been describing the hunger of this character, it would not have been a personal account,
