time foot fatigue can set in. Foot fatigue, which can be defined by weakness in the muscles of the feet caused by overuse, can result in pain, stress  fractures and lost time in the workplace. For nurses, lost time as a result of foot fatigue can play a significant role in an industry that constantly struggles to  maintain an adequate staff population. Statement of the Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify the problem of foot fatigue as it impacts employees, including nurses,  who must stand for long periods of time during the workday. This study will utilize a survey questionnaire of ER, acute care and long-term care nurses to determine the  breadth of the problem of foot fatigue, its impacts on nursing staffing and the best methods for reducing its occurrence. Review of Literature Statistics reported as recently  as September of 2007 suggest that more than 11 million visits to physicians offices are the result of foot and ankle problems, many of which occur on the job (HSS,  2007). Recent reports from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, for example, noted ankle sprains, Achilles tendon injuries and overuse injuries as common occurrences in high-impact occupations (HSS,  2007). Musculoskeletal fatigue, caused by repetitive strain or impact injuries are common in occupations in which standing, walking and even running occurs on a regular basis. Research  goes back to the early 20th century in terms of the impacts of fatigue and the physiological impacts, which can include the onset of stress fractures. In 1943, Berkman  conducted a study of the anatomy of the foot and identified etiological factors that lead to the onset of stress fractures, linked to foot fatigue, in marching soldiers (See Robin
