As this suggests critical thinking requires that individuals possess the ability to make connections between various bits of  often dissimilar information, drawing inferences from what is know, while also questioning any assumptions that lack sufficient proof (Am. Studies Learning, 2002). There are various forms of critical thinking --  i.e. scientific, persuasive, creative, etc. The sort of critical thinking required for a task largely depends on the context in which critical analysis is required. The term "context" refers to  everything that has to do with a particular event or development of thought, i.e. social, cultural, political and historical factors (Am. Studies Learning, 2002). These are the "forces of influence"  at work when an event occurs. This factor can also include elements specific to the people involved, such as gender, culture, ethnicity, birth order, race, economic status, ethics, etc.  (Am. Studies Learning, 2002). The ability of individuals to think critically is a topic that has been the focus of a great deal of research in recent years, with critical  thinking skills being applied to all subjects. From 1980 to 1994, for example, over 900 monographs and articles on critical thinking were published (Hoefler, 1994). As this suggests, this body  of literature is broad, and it also addresses all levels of education. But while critical thinking is a crucial factor in various professions, it is particularly crucial in the study  of science, as modern science is predicated on the scientific method. Scientific concepts begin with an abstract hypothesis and move toward the obtaining concrete data via experimentation, which will  either support the hypothesis or disprove it.
