    Ford became the number one automaker in America (Davis, 2003). The legendary Model T was first produced in 1908 (Davis, 2003). Ford was an early global company, it opened manufacturing  plans in England in 1911, well ahead of its time (Davis, 2003). In 1814, Ford offered its historic $5.00 workday at the plant (Davis, 2003). Ford wanted every employee to  be able to buy a Model T car. Henry Ford bought out the other shareholders in 1919 (Davis, 2003). The company has seen good and bad times over the last  100 years. Today, the company owns different brands, including Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury (Staff, 2009). It controls Volvo and it holds a small interest in Mazda (Staff, 2009). The following  tables link opportunities with strengths, weaknesses and threats. TABLE 1: Opportunities and Strengths Opportunity Correlated strength Innovation: companies must be innovative to capture todays market Ford has cash and  credit reserves that are being devoted to innovations for todays market. Ford has the best liquidity of all automakers. Fuel efficiency Ford has introduced hybrid cars. It has also introduced  cars that have state-of-the art technology. Diversification Ford owns other brands GM feelers for joint project This has to do with Fords success with recent models. Companies are pulling back  and Focusing on core strengths There are rumors Ford is trying to divest itself of Mazda and focus on the American brands. This is their core strength. Global market growing  Fords innovations may help them grow in this market. Some improvement in economy Ford is fiscally sound and can continue to focus on new plans as the sales improve Public  is more patriotic Ford can publicize its altruistic ventures. Chinas economy is growing with people becoming more materialistic Fords hi-tech new autos should be attractive to the Chinese.
