JLParite.rtf "The parite movement in French politics" Research Compiled for Enterprises Inc By ,  January 2013 To Use This Report Correctly, Please   There are a number of reasons why the current move by female politicians in France to achieve gender  parity in politics might lead to some degree of resentment, particularly amongst the male element in the French political system. This is partly as a result of the way in  which gender differences are perceived in the country as a whole and partly because of the way that the French political system itself has developed over the years.  In some ways, French women  have already achieved a greater level of gender equality than their counterparts in other European countries - in Britain, for example, it was only comparatively recently that inheritance laws were  changed to reflect equality between men and women - but in comparison to countries such as women it is evident that French women are significantly under-represented in the internal political  structure. Historically, the  position of women in the socio-cultural system has tended to reflect a strong bias towards the patriarchy. Jeffries (2001) makes the point that women have been traditionally regarded as subservient,
