Network administrators all over the world continue to specify Cisco products for use in their  networks. One such administrator commented that there were many things that could go wrong with a network and bring it down, but its Cisco components would be the last  to be suspected as contributing to the cause. Even in the face of the fallout of tech stocks and worldwide decline in networking  spending over the past year or so, Cisco remains the industry leader. Its value has declined as a result of market correction in the past two or three quarters,  but it still is known as the company that sets the standard for the rest. Ciscos Strengths  The company is extremely strong in its position, not only in the industry but also with its customers. It is the worldwide leader in WAN technology and  hardware, and it is Cisco that set the industry standard for networking. It is to Cisco hardware for which software developers write applications.  An example is Spectrum, which develops tools for existing hardware. The company has recently announced that it has developed "several new management modules for network hardware from Cisco  Systems Inc." (Lais, 1999; p. 16).
