The book is lengthy and does have several personal insights offered on Gates in  the authors attempt to humanize the man deemed as Americas richest man. Manes and Andrews know a great deal about the computer industry and therefore this results in a great  deal of detail about Microsoft and the industry and leaves less room for information about its central character, Gates. Nevertheless, the book still does Gates justice in revealing his motivation,  competitiveness, work ethic and energy which led him to the top of his industry despite surrounding controversy, tradition and competition. Stephen Manes and  Paul Andrews wrote their biography "Gates: How Microsofts Mogul Reinvented an Industry" on Microsofts Bill Gates in 1993; the year Gates was announced as Americas richest man. At the age  of 37, Gates was valued with over $7 billion in net worth, more than any other American had ever had before him. Because Gates was only 37 at the time  however, Manes and Andrews were left with a relatively short life to document and therefore spent much of their time and energy writing about the Microsoft Corporation as an entity  as they did writing about Gates (Blankenborn, 1993; Manes and Andrews, 1993). Despite the focus mainly on Gates years with Microsoft, Manes and Andrews include quite a few of what  seem like personal items from Gates past which are used well to define his personality for those who know little about him. Some of the interesting items include Gates negotiating  a contract with his sister in order to use her baseball glove; Gates and a coworker sneaking into a construction site in order to race bulldozers; and, his virtual dates
