"...There are many aspects of stories and storytelling worth examining" (Behrens et al 593).  When examining the classic Cinderella, what initially comes to mind is the transition that takes place throughout the story; however, when delving deeper, what becomes even more intriguing is  the tales historical path and how it has been represented by more than a dozen global communities. "It comes as a surprise to many that there exist Chinese, French,  German, African, and Native American versions of the popular Cinderella, along with 700 other versions worldwide. Which is the real Cinderella? The question is misleading in that each  version is real for a particular group of people in a particular place and time. Certainly, you can judge among versions and select the most appealing. You can  also draw comparisons" (Behrens et al 597). Cinderellas legacy is indeed far and away one of the most diverse of all famous fairytales. Its impressive beginning, which is  traced to China, marks the start of myriad versions that are recognized in cultural folklore worldwide. If one were to determine just exactly how many versions have existed throughout  the ages, one would be hard pressed to find a definitive answer, inasmuch as the long-standing estimate ranges from three hundred forty to fifteen hundred, the latter of which includes  "all of the picture book and musical interpretations" (History of Cinderella). The story remains fundamentally the same throughout every version, varying only slightly in relation to characterization and other  small elements that still maintains a common denominator with regard to its meaning. One of the most diverse differences is when Cinderellas guardian is the spirit of her deceased
