    A Novel. Both writers deal with the increase of violence in their countries. This increase in violence is an event of history-making proportions. The important lessons to  be learned from these books and the exploration of violence are discussed in this paper as to what this means and what should be done about it. VIOLENCE ON  THE RISE The violence that is on the increase in countries around the world is not built up overnight. The violence that seemingly started up one morning only to  get worse with time is a violence that is built upon decades of myths, stories, truths and half-truths. The violence, perhaps not always on the surface where it could  be seen was nonetheless simmering right underneath the surface. The two authors whose works we examine here understand the intricate dealings that go on in secret, the violence and mistrust  that is borne of decades of fear and greed. These two works are based in Somalia and India but indeed, they could be meant for any country that is  seeing the subterfuge and violence of their societies break down the people and entire nations. One reason these novels are so important and history-making is that even though they are  set in other nations they affect us, the United States, as well. Admiral Jack Shanahan has stated that "American Security is dependent on a more stable and prosperous world.  We cannot survive as an island in a sea of turmoil" (Hazen PG). And a sea of turmoil is an apt description of the shape of the world today.  Taking a closer look at the two books mentioned above, the reader can see that both authors have seemingly written novels of intrigue and fiction.
