In Chile, however, the politics are different. Instead of choosing from two parties from which to select their leaders, Chileans are part of a multi-party system, which can put dozens  of candidates on any one ballot. These days, Chile is a constitutional government headed up by a president who is elected by popular vote for a six-year-term. Voters have much  to choose from in Chile, however, as democracy is run on a multi-party system. However, it has been Chiles multi-party system and its various dichotomies that led to the collapse  of democracy in Chile in 1973, and ultimately led to the reinstatement of it in 1989.
