approach has been to ensure integrity by separating the data collection and analysis, making them two completely separated tasks. One of the theories that has emerged, used in the  social sciences is that of grounded theory. This has developed and evolved, with a more recent definition stating that grounded theory as "theory that was derived from data, systematically gathered  and analysed through the research process. In this method data collection, analysis and eventual theory stand in close relationship to one another" (Strauss and Corbin, 1998; 12). As  we can see from this the paradigm is one different from the traditional approach, there is a direct link between the different stages, and the ideas is that as the  data is gathered the theory should make itself known as the data is gathered. This is where we see the title of the theory coming from, with the theory grounded  in the data (Bryman, 2001). If we look more a more descriptive idea of the approach, again we can again look to Strauss and Corbin " the grounded theory approach  is a qualitative research method that uses a systematic set of procedures to develop an inductively derived grounded theory about a phenomenon" (1998; 24). The main approach here is that  the information gathered should be able to give an account of the influence or idea that will then be used to distinguish the various constructs, trends and the contextual relationship  of the various data that is used (Strauss and Corbin, 1998). The theory is that any results that are produced from the research undertaken using the methodology will be more  valuable than a description would be (Strauss and Corbin, 1998). Firstly, when used, grounded theory should be capable of satisfying are four main criteria (Strauss and Corbin, 1998). The
