Gullivers Travels and A Modest Proposal  The first question asks "How Gulliver sees himself." Gulliver is a character, the main character, who goes through a sort of transformation in the novel, first being nothing  more than a simple European and later becoming a more enlightened human being. One critic notes the following in relationship to how Gulliver sees himself and how he transforms: "That  transformation involves a growing critical awareness of the extent to which pride rules human actions. At the start Gulliver gives no sign of ever having thought about such matters. Hes  a patriotic, unreflective European professional. The insights come intermittently and do not last.
