    work was, in many ways, powerfully satirical and he is perhaps the master of satire, as it relates to political power and social constructs. The following paper examines some questions,  posed by the student requesting this paper, as it involves Swifts Gullivers Travels and A Modest Proposal. Gullivers Travels and A Modest Proposal  The first question asks "How Gulliver sees himself." Gulliver is a character, the main character, who goes through a sort of transformation in the novel, first being nothing  more than a simple European and later becoming a more enlightened human being. One critic notes the following in relationship to how Gulliver sees himself and how he transforms: "That  transformation involves a growing critical awareness of the extent to which pride rules human actions. At the start Gulliver gives no sign of ever having thought about such matters. Hes  a patriotic, unreflective European professional. The insights come intermittently and do not last. But to some extent, the transformation of Gulliver at the end of the fourth voyage can be  seen as a logical outcome of the trend that has started before" (Johnston). He learns, through his interactions with different citizens, different people/creatures, that his way of thinking is  not the only way, and it may not be the best way of thinking either. Although one may argue he does not transform completely and ultimately by the end, he  surely enlightens the reader which seems to be his intention. One of the most powerful attacks on an object, or entity, as  it involves the second question, is that which addresses the yahoos. The student also asks what the definition of a yahoo is and this can essentially be defined as a
