    stopped had he not had a gun, they say that everyone else should have one instead. There are in fact stories of shootouts where the good guy wins and the  bad guy is apprehended. In the end, they say it is a good thing that people carry guns. In California, on the other hand, a sniper or spree killer will  be seen as a threat to society but they blame the gun more than the individual. A large part of the difference in thinking is cultural which lends itself to  political differences as well. California and Texas are used as examples here because they are at different ends of the spectrum. They illustrate the thinking about gun control throughout the  nation. Indeed, the subject is divisive. While there are admittedly different attitudes about gun control, it is really not arguable that gun violence is accentuated by guns. There is social  control in the United States. The police are in control. There are laws on the books. The state must exercise restrictions on behavior in order to create a safe environment.  If owning a gun should be legal, then so should smoking marijuana, prostitution or anything for that matter that someone wants to do. There is really no reason to own  a gun. Violence begets violence. The arguments fall along those lines. Also, while some contend that people have a constitutional right to gun ownership, that is not really true.  The Second Amendment does need to be addressed as part of an argument for gun control. This is of course the primary argument those on the other side of the  spectrum suggest when making their case.
