Still, Heineken faces tough challenges in 2009. II. Company History  It was in 1864 that Gerard Adriaan Heineken purchased a brewery in Amsterdam ("The History of Heineken"). The company thrived for 140 years, seeing three generations of this family  business run the shop ("The History of Heineken"). By 1880, the firm would be the largest exporter to France ("The History of Heineken"). Things went well, but by 1912 competition  was fierce ("The History of Heineken"). During the Second World War the company created The Heineken Foundation for Personnel ("The History of Heineken"). The business thrived.  By 1989, Heineken had become the second larger brewery in the world as well as the globes most international brand ("The History of Heineken"). By that time it  boasted presence in more than 170 countries ("The History of Heineken"). In 1999, Heineken was voted with the prestigious honor of being Brand of the Century ("The History of  Heineken"). During the 2000s, Heineken does get into more business changes. It enters joint ventures and is shaped by acquisitions ("The History of Heineken"). It does some of this  business in China and Russia during 2004 ("The History of Heineken"). In 2005, the corporation would acquire a number of breweries in Germany ("The History of Heineken"). Heineken  continues to flourish and jump on new trends.
