    It is an accepted fact in sociological circles that the construction of the colonial order has determined many aspects of our history. A more controversial contention, however, is  that this same colonial order also interplays in our modern world. From the manner in which we have historically made the ideological separation between East and West, to the  manner indigenous cultures such as the Kayapo in the Amazon Region of Brazil have been impacted in modern times by non-indigenous culture and development, to the racial problems which have  surfaced in the United States and elsewhere in the world, the colonial construct is still very much at play. This construct revolves around the construct of "otherness", the mindset  of "us verses them" which has predominated human culture practically since the beginning of time. When this mindset comes into play between technologically or economically dissimilar cultures, however, the  results can be catastrophic as the weaker culture is dominated by the stronger. The result is the subjugation and change of people and entire cultures. This phenomena has  repeated itself again and again throughout world history and, indeed, continues to occur even today. Just as this phenomena was represented in the art and imagery of history, so  too is it represented in todays modern images. The world has witnessed a parade of colonial powers throughout history. Among the most  prominent of these were the Spanish, French, Dutch, and English. Later, of course, the U.S. would enter the domain of the colonizer. Each of these world powers had  slightly different ways of dealing with the indigenous peoples with whom they came in contact. Most often technologically superior, these colonizers roamed through the world looking for resources and
