    Using works by several Latin American authors, this paper will analyze how all these things work together as told by the stories to make us into the people we  are. OUR OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENTS: SHAPING OUR INNER WORLDS There can be no argument surrounding the fact that family dynamics -- the interaction patterns between members, as well as the  manner in which the family functions together -- are influential with regard to adolescent psychological development. There is intrinsic relationship between high conflict/intact, low conflict/intact and divorced families, where it  is found that children from adolescents from low conflict and intact families had a significantly higher self-perception and psychological adjustment rating. It stands to reason that, from these results,  children who are forced to endure the constant negativity of a high conflict home life, it is bound to take a toll on the individuals personal development. What is  interesting, however, is that there exists a discrepancy with regard to how parents and their children interpret the definition of family functioning. In reading the works by Cisneros, Garcia, and  Alvarez, we see different types of Latin American families and how the children within these environments learn to react based on the interaction and environment in which they are raised.  Parenting styles differ significantly, therefore, leaving much open to interpretation and inference. Certain aspects, such as nurturing, permissiveness and control, represent individual styles of parenting that produce different results.  If a parent is nurturing, he offers love, support, comfort, warmth and concern in such a manner that allows the child to feel safe and accepted. Allowing a  child to be governed by his own free will is how permissive parents opt to guide their upbringing, with punishment typically being absent from the process. At the middle
