A common, but not universal approach, within scientific methodologies is to formulate a theory and then distil this into a hypothesis which can be tested. This will usually involve defining  the theory and expressing it in very specific terms which can be tested. A null hypothesis, which is the opposite hypothesis, taking the opposite is also developed to be tested  (Curwin and Slater, 2003). The authors will then seek to prove or disprove the hypothesis with the use of the statistical analysis. While this paper does use a good scientific  approach producing statistics in order to assess the impact that HR changes have on employee performance, it is not undertaken in terms of and hypothesis test. However, if we are  to deduce the underlying hypothesis within the work and the theory it may be that "employee performance may be improved by utilizing financial incentives combined with employee involvement and teamwork".  However, hypothesis is usually formulated at the beginning of the research, and this is generated in hindsight after reading the statistical data. Scientific Research Design The research design involved a  case study approach as the subject of the study was one singular company; however there were four different production lines. The approach adopted appears to have its basis in an  analytical deductive approach. A case study approach is very useful where a researcher wishes to gain in-depth information on knowledge regarding a specific issue, as it facilitates the ability to  study an issue in a qualitative manner. However it should not be assumed that a case study does not facilitate quantitative data. In undertaking case study it is necessary  for researchers to identify a suitable case, where the relevant variables of the phenomenon they wish to study are all present.
