    itself for him was the need for everyday heroes, the loss of heroes in the modern world, and the discovery of the heroes both on the rez and within himself.  Fraziers point of view going into the adventure was that of being fairly na?ve. He had done a prior work on Crazy Horse and as such was interested in  Native American lore, had even lived with the plains Indians for a while. However, his point of view was like that of most outsiders; he romanticized the Native American past  until the reality and the harshness that existed during that time is obscured by the emotion of the present. Part of his reason  for writing the book was that after spending some time with his Native American friends, he realized that there were misconceptions galore in regard to the Native American way of  life and their existence in the modern world. However, after showing the harshness of modern living on the Rez, he is quick to dispel the notion that Native Americans are  unhappy all the time. "I dont want to stand in the dimness under the shelter at the powwow grounds in the group around the circle of men beating the drums  and singing ancient songs and lose myself in that moment when all the breaths and all the heartbeats become one. What I want is just as "Indian," just as traditional,  but harder to pin down"(Frazier 1). Frazier goes into a brief bout of history when he speaks of the great chief Red Cloud who addressed the Senate of the  United States. His declaration to be his own man, to abide by his own rules of etiquette and not to bow to the conventions of the white man serve as
