at any studies the extent to which class may be an important issue in class identify outside the workplace does appear to be supported. The reasons may be seen as
mixed, from a decreasing level of differentiation between the classes to increased class mobility. Indeed, the more rapid class changes may occur it may be argued that the lower the
influence of class on social perception. The traditional class differentiation that is made by those living in society can be seen as
the upper and lower classes such as upper class, middle class, working class, with further differentiation by subdivisions such as lower middle class. These have a wide range of interpretations
and as such may be useful, but can also be ambiguous especially as some of the working class profession have now become more professional, and the definitions are in a
constant state of flux. There are other definitions of class, the marketing companies will use a demographic series with categorisations from A down to F where A is the
top class and consists of only managing directors and very highly paid workers and office worker being classed generally as a C1 and manual workers as a C2. Again this
categorisation has attracted much criticism, and can be seen as a useful reference, but not definitive. The social perception of class may be seen in more popular terms, such as
snobs, yuppies and so on, but this may also be seen as an extenuation of the Marxist ideas of the bourgeoiss and the protalitariate (Haralambros et al 112).
The way in which class may give rise to factors of identity are now less associated with the work environment than in former times. Indeed, in looking at
