    draw out the presence of superstition, omens, dreams and irony from virtually any situation. His celebrated Chronicles of a Death Foretold is especially indicative of the authors inherent ability  to meld the aspects of fantasy with reality in order to portray these sometimes-concealed story elements. The inherent relationship that exists between the  books title and the concepts of superstition, omens, dreams and irony bring to light the manner by which people sometimes do not realize how their lives are impacted by external  events; that Garcia Marquez sets his story in such a backdrop helps the reader gain a significantly better understanding of just how interwoven superstition, omens, dreams and irony truly are.  Clearly, the point made by the author is one of pertinence to the entire global population, in that it strives to illustrate how people can be locked within overwhelming  illusion while at the same time searching for a common denominator of understanding. "Here, the borders between life and death swirl together in a gentle and mysterious twilight, and  -- if we allow it to possess us -- love can strike flaming miracles from the ashes of our soul" (Macondo). The manner by which Garcia Marquez achieves this  objective is through magic realism. In a world that combines fantasy and reality to create an image much grander than life, magic realism  is a space and time not many authors have successfully captured. Hispanic-American literature is most assuredly the leader of magic realism, which is defined as a mingling of characters  and events in such a way that perfectly blends realistic and mythical elements to create a strangely familiar world (Magic Realism).
