Through various forms of technology we can perhaps live longer, live healthier, and communicate with individuals all over the world, individuals that we  would never have met otherwise. But, technology also seems to bring negative consequences as well as we see families relying on technology as a substitute for communication among other things.  In the following paper we examine how the new technology has altered and is altering our society and our lives. Technology and Our Lives "Who among us hasnt  reflected on how some aspect of the new information age is changing our jobs, family lives, communities, or patterns of commerce? And it is precisely because of this all persuasiveness  that it is difficult to build a meaningful essay on the potential social implications" (Nie, 1999; part43a.htm). People often imagine that technology has done nothing but improve our lives, making  us able to accomplish more in a day and have more freedom. But, at the same time it has greatly altered our family structures as well. For example, a child  in the past may have sat down with their parents in order to get help with homework. Today children are more independent it seems and more reliant on technology. They  look to the Internet and they look to computerized programs which help with homework. The computer is perhaps one of the most astounding items which has changed the face of  families. All members of a family seem to spend hours on the computer, playing and essentially engaging in solitary endeavors. Sometimes the computer can bring families together, however, as they  play games together, research together, or look to find vacation plans, etc. This also becomes a reality for friends and long distant relationships as well.
