    the case management services -- departments or companies that help better manage inpatient cases in order to help hospitals better manage their costs. The University of California/San Diego Medical  Center Thornton Hospital has such a case management service. This service helps the hospital coordinate care and conducts necessary utilization reviews and discharge planning. The purpose of this  paper is to examine all other institutions similar to UCSD are able to use their case management services for better economic impact. In order to better prepare and analyze this  particular inpatient case management service, we will examine a case management evaluation performed at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. We will also examined a case management program implemented by Peninsula  Regional Medical Center, which was losing money despite attempting to streamline its care coordination and discharge planning actions. In the next section, we will briefly defined the concept of micro  and macro economics. An Overall View of Economics In its most basic sense, economics is a process by which goods and services are obtained by an individual. Such goods  and services can be purchased with currency, bartered or even obtained for free. For our purposes, we will examine economics as use of currency for purchasing goods or services.  Within the general system of economics, there is Micro economics and macro economics. Microeconomics is the basis of most economic theories, in that it focuses solely on the demand  of an individual, the money he/she has to pay for a product or service, in the amount of product or service available. Macro economics in the meantime, takes a  look at the bigger picture. Most examples used when it comes to macro economics are the impact of government fiscal policy, labor status and political factors on supply and
