    can go, though a student may very well feel as if they are bending over backward in an attempt to adjust to a new way of life. The Limbo that  is referred to, then, is that state that the entering freshman finds him or herself in that is neither a state of adulthood and is one dance step beyond high  school. Where else could such a person be, then? Limbo. The entering freshman generally has a few things on his or her mind, the first one being, where will I  sleep? and if the freshman is female the qualifier becomes, is it clean? must be added. For a male student, the qualifier would be more aptly stated, where will I  sleep and how far away from food is it? The other concerns an entering freshman might have are the ability to manage time wisely, to develop adequate study skills, and  to deal with that giddy feeling of independence that comes with the moving away from the parental units. The student may not even know that he has these concerns, but  acknowledged or not, they are there and they will make themselves very apparent in a short while. Based on past experience, the National Institute of Independent Colleges and Universities  estimates that 18% of the 2.5 million young men and women who enroll in college this fall will not return after their first year, with a startling 44% that will  drop out before earning a degree(Luciano, Sinai 18). With these stats in mind, it would seem the great Limbo is alive and well in the countrys universities, both public and  private. What makes a student leave a school? It could be the failure to have a realistic picture of what college is really all about. Many come to school thinking
