    1. Introduction International business development is a very pertinent subject. An increasing number of businesses are seeking to develop internationally, taking the opportunity  to access new markets as well as seeking to gain from potential comparative advantages. The economic benefits of international business development appear to be attractive, acting as a response  to push factors as well as providing their own pull factors (Mintzberg et al, 2003). However, just as many companies succeed in international expansion, others fail. This may be  with specific product expansions, such as the failure of Coca-Colas Dasani water, in the UK, this was the largest selling brand of water in the US, but had to be  withdrawn after only a few months (Johnson, 2004), or the failure of a company, such ar the failure of a compn the failure of a compnmay hch had to d  the strcture of the onof a propsoaed replacment ale for the failure of Wal-Mart when it attempted to expand into Germany and South Korea (The Economist, 2006). This indicates  how even some of the strongest companies with huge resources can face challenges and fail. There are major constrains to international business development, as many companies, including Coca-Cola and  Wal-Mart have found out these include political and cultural differences and influences. Business will be placed in a better positioned if they can identify and find ways of mitigating the  constraints which are placed on international trade. The aim of the research is to help companies identify the potential barriers and the ways in which the difficulties faced may be  mitigated. The next chapter will look at the background to the problem, this is then followed by a proposed methodology for research into the subject. 2. Background International business
