who has special expertise in the application of technology to politics. They are interested in using the Internet as a tool for promoting their views for their third party candidate,  Linda LaRock. Her specific views are not important to the case study and her staff comes to the consultant for advice about two issues. First, how can the use of  the Internet help the party and the candidate become a player on the national political scene ? Also, assuming it can help, what should the web site look like?  What works best in terms of internet presence for political candidates? While the Internet is a good vehicle to launch many businesses, its use in politics is questionable. However,  there does seem to be at least anecdotal evidence that the Internet is in fact powerful. Pressman (2000) explains that the Internets power can change politics and provides an example  from the 2000 presidential election. Here, it is noted that Vice President Al Gore was ready to give a concession speech but an aide looking at a Web  site claiming that Texas Governor George W. Bushs lead had suddenly shrunk and so Gore abandoned his planned speech (2000). That was a very close election and whether or not  the timely information was derived from the web, there would have been chaos. Still, the author claims that "without the Web, the electoral crisis surrounding the Florida vote might  not have materialized" (2000, p.PG). To some extent, the Internet is influential in terms of the election process itself, but also it is useful in getting a party platform across.  Third party candidates who want to get noticed may want to use a vast array of mediums, but the Internet should certainly be one of them.
