on a college campus: for or against?" authors Ilsa Lottes, Martin Weinberg, and Inge Weller present an interesting view of the acceptability of one of the most controversial subjects of  all time, pornography. This article is far from a rehash of the authors opinions only, but its approach is far beyond criticism. The authors scientifically examine the views  of students at a Midwestern university as to an adults right to access sexually explicit materials and their opinions as to the harmful and positive aspects of such materials.  They find that essentially these students fall into two rigidly defined groups: 1. those that believe pornography should not be restricted and, indeed, has positive effects; and 2.  those that believe pornography should be restricted and have no positive effects. The authors noted that women, less sexually active respondents and those who have never seen pornography typically  fall into the latter category. While the findings presented by Lottes, Weinberg, and Weller (1993) are interesting, they represent a very  myopic view of the issues and societal impacts of pornography. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the shortcomings of this research and to illuminate the real problems  which are associated with pornography, particularly in regard to the World Wide Web where everyone, adult and child alike can freely and easily access pornography as well as many other  potentially damaging depictions such as violence. Lottes, Weinberg, and Wellers research (1993) is first limited by the fact that it consists of the  opinions of college students. Although the researchers correctly point out that these students are tomorrows leaders today they are students and far from emotionally or even academically mature.
