As a US-based multinational enterprise (MNE), FinestBrews is committed to upholding the laws of the United States as well as those of the various host countries in which it  is located. FinestBrews growth in Lithuania has been shaped by local tradition. Though cultural sensitivity is necessary and local tradition needs to be acknowledged in many areas of  operation, the company has reached a point in its Lithuanian operation at which it is necessary to redirect the companys path to achieve compliance with stated company policy and with  US law. As a US-based organization, FinestBrews legal accountability rests first with US law. Transparency International states that though some countries are  improving in their place on its annual Corruption Perceptions Index, "Corruption is rampant in 60 countries, and the public sector is plagued by bribery" (Transparency International, 2004). According to  this years index, Lithuania stands at the point where it can progress or recede. As a US multinational, FinestBrews bears responsibility to operate on a higher plane.  There are several points to address that are quite routine for FinestBrews but relatively new in standard Lithuanian business practice. These points include corporate  governance, diversity issues and workplace behavior. Corporate Governance Accounting Practice Many MNEs have difficulty integrating local tradition and internationally-accepted accounting convention. It  is quite common for growing companies - or those that wish to grow - to find the middle ground. This "middle ground" ethically is a place that acknowledges local  tradition and local culture while yet adhering to established convention and home-state laws. At present, FinestBrews Lithuanian location is skewed toward local tradition.
