    following questions in respect to that statement: A. Identify the significance and overall steps leading toward the decolonization of the mind. In looking at decolonization of  the mind, this entity may be applicable to African Americans, but it is also applicable to peoples in other cultures. African and Asian Americans for example have had similar experiences  (Morikawa, 2001). They both have a history of migration as well as a cultural interaction and European colonization and decolonization (2001). In the United States, both were oppressed, served as  slaves, were used as cheap labor, and both groups have had to demand equality as well as human dignity (2001). A student writing on this subject will want to note  that while it is true that the decolonization of the mind, is special and distinct from actual decolonization, in some sense, they are related. The idea that decolonization had an  impact on black individuals is really enough to embrace it when discussing decolonization of the mind. Still, a student will want to point out that the point behind identity politics  is actually the journey towards what has been dubbed "decolonization of the mind" and involves a lengthy stop at the site of cultural heritage (Hoechsmnn, 2002). In  other words, by reclaiming ones past,and ones history as well as cultural roots, youths may be empowered so that they can move forward with confidence (2002). In terms of black  studies specifically, it means an embrace of the past. This has all come about in the black community in stages as little by little, information about slavery and the past  of the black individual had been revealed. The book and miniseries called Roots had served to give the society information it needed to make sense of the past, and
